Was wary of selling gold by post as I've never done this before but the whole procedure was quick, easy and secure with detailed instructions on their web site. The old saying 'does what it says on the tin'. I visited the web site, used the gold price calculator and decided I wanted to sell based on the price displayed. I read the reviews on the site and decided after reading the positive reviews I would visit the sales counter at The Birmingham Gold Co. to check it out. The guy on the sales counter was great, made the exercise easy. Some of the items were checked, this was done in front of me and the gold weighed, again in front of me. He then quoted a price to purchase the gold . The price he offered was within a couple of pounds of the figure I had got using the online calculator. An internet search revealed the best pricing was available from BG&SC - the on-line calculator is useful and updated in real-time. After contacting Lionel by e-mail, I took the items up personally, dealing with Alex at the counter (what a nice chap). Excellent/professional service and a bit of a natter thrown in! Only took 30min to nip out and confirm the purity by analysis whilst I went for a coffee and sandwich at Cafe Neo round the corner (also recommended). Completely trustworthy process/people with weights recorded, timed, and receipts signed off both before and after analysis and at the point of sale. I found dealing with this company very easy and straight forward. They are very clear on how their evaluation and sales process works, including instructions and a form to fill in if sending goods to them by post.
I used the silver calculator on their website so roughly knew how much the goods were worth, give or take any wear/damage or uncertainty about the grade of silver. I got a call the next day confirming their offer, which I was very happy with, and the funds appeared the same or next day in my bank account.
Before I chose to go with this company, I popped into a local high street jeweller to get an evaluation and they valued my collection at almost two thirds less than the offer from the Birmingham Gold & Silver Company. Shipping the silver to them was no real inconvenience, and not particularly expensive, and the goods were insured up to £1000. BGSC will also return your silver to you free of charge, if you decide not to accept their offer.

We had two broken rope necklaces , 2 pairs of earrings , 2 gold rings ( one looked like brass ) , a tie pin & stud - some having no markings. I cannot praise Birmingham Gold & Silver Company enough. I have used them for over a year now on many occasions and find that the service is second to none. Alex is extremely helpful and prompt and the money always appears in our account within 24 hours. Alex is always willing to give advice over the phone when asked. We did try another company who provided a free postage envelope but who proved to be dreadful, verging on criminal. We had to fight by email with them to get our goods back since the price they quoted on the phone was derisory. We then had to pay to receive our gold/silver back. We eventually threatened them with the Police and Trading Standards and they did then return the goods. This cost us £23.00. Beware there are dreadful people out there but we can only speak as we find. 
We will not use any other company to sell gold/silver to other than Birmingham Gold & Silver Company.

Note that others will quote you a price over the phone but if you ask what they will actually PAY you (ie once they have it!) it might be 20% less! I read the reviews on the site and decided after reading the positive reviews I would visit the sales counter at The Birmingham Gold Co. to check it out. The guy on the sales counter was great, made the exercise easy. Some of the items were checked, this was done in front of me and the gold weighed, again in front of me. He then quoted a price to purchase the gold . The price he offered was within a couple of pounds of the figure I had got using the online calculator. An internet search revealed the best pricing was available from BG&SC - the on-line calculator is useful and updated in real-time. After contacting Lionel by e-mail, I took the items up personally, dealing with Alex at the counter (what a nice chap). Excellent/professional service and a bit of a natter thrown in! I'm writing you today in the hopes of obtaining your help. Recently I bought a Birmingham Silver over Copper complete Tea/Coffee Service Set including a very large serving tray. When the tray was delivered to my home today, I noticed the left handle on the tray had broken off. It appears that the tray is Silver on Pewter, but no matter it's make up, I'd like to get it fixed. I took it to a local welding company and they attempted to "spot weld it", but it did not work. Please let me know if there is any chance of this tray being fixed if I were to send it to you, or perhaps you can make suggestions as to who I could take it to here in the States to get it repaired. I found dealing with this company very easy and straight forward. They are very clear on how their evaluation and sales process works, including instructions and a form to fill in if sending goods to them by post.
I used the silver calculator on their website so roughly knew how much the goods were worth, give or take any wear/damage or uncertainty about the grade of silver. I got a call the next day confirming their offer, which I was very happy with, and the funds appeared the same or next day in my bank account.
Before I chose to go with this company, I popped into a local high street jeweller to get an evaluation and they valued my collection at almost two thirds less than the offer from the Birmingham Gold & Silver Company. Shipping the silver to them was no real inconvenience, and not particularly expensive, and the goods were insured up to £1000. BGSC will also return your silver to you free of charge, if you decide not to accept their offer.

We had two broken rope necklaces , 2 pairs of earrings , 2 gold rings ( one looked like brass ) , a tie pin & stud - some having no markings. I cannot praise Birmingham Gold & Silver Company enough. I have used them for over a year now on many occasions and find that the service is second to none. Alex is extremely helpful and prompt and the money always appears in our account within 24 hours. Alex is always willing to give advice over the phone when asked. We did try another company who provided a free postage envelope but who proved to be dreadful, verging on criminal. We had to fight by email with them to get our goods back since the price they quoted on the phone was derisory. We then had to pay to receive our gold/silver back. We eventually threatened them with the Police and Trading Standards and they did then return the goods. This cost us £23.00. Beware there are dreadful people out there but we can only speak as we find. 
We will not use any other company to sell gold/silver to other than Birmingham Gold & Silver Company.

Straightforward trade, very competitive price.You take your silver to their shop, best if it's solid, not mixed with other materials, eg wood. They weigh it then multiply the weight by the current price per kilo posted on their website for that grade of silver and give you the cash you're due. Honest open transaction. I can't praise these guys enough! I'd had a bad experience with a different company in W'hampton so I was nervous about attempting to sell my scrap silver again. This time I tried the Birmingham Gold and Silver companies. I needn't have worried. The transaction was smooth, efficient, and the only holdup was caused by myself as I had to go back to get my I.D. I had no qualms about leaving my stuff with them while I rushed back to my car. They are honest, give a very good price with no hidden costs, and well, fun to deal with! I went back again today. Because what I was selling wasn't 'scrap' I tried another dealer first who stated he would possibly pay more for 'sellable' items. I was offered £450. This is the first time I have used this company. I estimated the value of my silver scrap using their helpful tools and sent off my good via Special delivery as advised. Posted my items at 11.30am on Tuesday and at 8.30am the following morning I received a phone call from Alex who informed me that they had received my silver and he gave me a valuation that was almost exactly what I had worked it out to be. Nice people to do business with. I have never sold silver before but did a bit of looking around before settling on BSC. Note that others will quote you a price over the phone but if you ask what they will actually PAY you (ie once they have it!) it might be 20% less! Not so with BSC, they quoted a good/fair price and this is what I got - subject only to fluctuations in the market until they get the item. They rung me as soon as the item was received (ie the next day in my case). I got the money in my account within a couple of days. I would definately do business with them again.
